Compassion is the essence of Buddhist religion: Karmapa
Itanagar, Nov 29: His Holiness, the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje, today exhorted people to practise compassion which is the essence of Buddhist religion.
Seated among religious scholars, monks, nuns and high profile dignitaries at Yid-Gha-Choezin Gompa at Tawang monastery, His Holiness, who arrived at Tawang yesterday, referred to philosopher Nagarjuna and advised that maintaining good health was equally important.
His Holiness further spoke on the relationship between the Karmapa and the Monpas referring to the visit of first Karmapa Dusum Khyenpa during the early 12th century. He also mentioned the visit of 3rd, 4th and 9th Karmapa to the Mon region.
Earlier welcoming the Karmapa, Chief Minister Pema Khandu said the people of Monyul were long aspiring to seek the blessings of His Holiness. He hoped that with his spiritual blessings and guidance, it would help all to become better human beings.
Khandu informed His Holiness that the people of Mon region were eager to learn Bhoti script which had been introduced in schools as third language. He hoped that proficiency in Bhoti script would help people understand the ancient Buddhist scriptures and take them to higher level of perfection.
Earlier, the programme began with a plantation drive in the Gompa compound by the Karmapa and Khandu. It was followed by the offerings of Mande-Ten-Tsum by the Abbot of Tawang Monastery, an official release said.
Over 20,000 people from all over Tawang district gathered at the high altitude stadium to get a glimpse of the Karmapa. PTI
MLB College inks MoU with SRU Thailand
NAMSAI, Nov 29: The Surindra Rajabhat University, Regional Development Strategies Foundation (SRURDSF) of Surin Province, North East of Thailand and Mahabodhi Lord Buddha College of Namsai District inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote cooperation between Arunachal and Thailand in the field of academic interest at Golden Pagoda Eco-Tourist Resort this evening.
The MoU was signed by Associate Professor Dr Achara Phanurat, Ex-President of Surindra Rajabhat University, Regional Development Strategies Foundation and Ven. Bhikkhu Panyaloka, Director of Mahabodhi Lord Buddha College, Namsai in presence of the Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Chowna Mein and Tharadol Thongruang, Minister Councellor, Royal Thai Embassy, New Delhi.
As per the MoU, both the institutes agreed to carry out the academic and research activities apart from promoting cultural activities.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein said, "this MoU has taken the Act East Policy in high spirit". He further said the Govt of Arunachal Pradesh is committed to give practical shape of Act East Policy.
He said that signing of MoU will help to build friendly relations by conducting cultural exchange, linguistic and research activities. He reiterated on strengthening ties with other South East Asian Countries, which would be beneficial for development of tourism as well as for economic development of our state.
Tharadol Thongruang, Minister Counselor, Royal Thai Embassy, New Delhi said, "this is like a family re-uniting" and expressed hope that this small step will take a bigger shape in coming days. He said that Arunachal Pradesh and Thailand are very close to each other though separated by few mountains. The old routes that links Arunachal Pradesh and North East of Thailand could be re-opened for building better relationships in future, he opined.
Dr Gerhard Heller, a famous research scholar from Germany who was also present in the occasion said, "Arunachal Pradesh is not only a bio-diversity hotspot but also a cultural hotspot" and the state offers a huge scope for tourism and cultural & spiritual research works.

Central team inspects ALGs at Pasighat & Aalo
PASIGHAT, Nov 29: An official team of Airport Authority of India (AAI) and Indian Air Force (IAF) along with Director, Civil Aviation R. Ronya, East Siang Deputy Commissioner In-charge Bani Lego, Group Captain (Rtd) Mohonto Panging and officials from district administration on Tuesday inspected feasibilities of Civil Terminal at the Pasighat ALG to operationalize commercial flights in future.
DCA Ronya held a detail discussion which was participated by the DC Bani Lego, DLRSO Ojing Nangkar, O.P. Chugh (Engg), Varun Kr Lal, DGM (ARCH), Vishnu Ram PV, AD (OPS) DGCA, S.M.F. Rahman i/c RD (BACS), Wng-Cdr. A Jakhalu, T.P. Subbaiah and Sqdn-Ldr. Premjith (Dibrugarh) and L.K. Sharma (Jorhat) of IAF and sought supports from the central team to resolve all pending issues. Later he made a field visit with DGCA, AAI, BCAS and Indian Air Force officers.
During the discussion and field visit, DC In-charge Bani Lego asked the visiting team to start domestic flights immediately with the existing infrastructure with minimum facility up-gradation wherever feasible.
Group Captain (Rtd) Mohonto Panging opined that Pasighat ALG has full potentials to introduce Civil Terminal. Planning has been an integral part of the AAI and all departmental processes has to be undertaken immediately, be it airport feasibility studies, design of passenger terminals, car-parking facilities etc to fulfill the long pending demand of Pasighat.
Meanwhile, the official team of Airports Authority of India, Indian Air Force, Director General of Civil Aviation and Bureau of Aviation Security led by State Civil Aviation Director Repo Ronya visited Advance Landing Ground (ALG) at Aalo on Tuesday.
The officials disclosed that natural obstructions surrounding the town are posing disturbances for landing of big passengers, transporters and fighter planes at the ALG.
Director civil aviation Repo Ronya informed that all out efforts are being made by the department of Civil Aviation to locate feasible landing ground in the state for landing of all kinds of airplanes.
"Problem of landing in few strategic parts will be taken up with the state govt. so that new proposals are sent to the Ministry of Civil Aviation," he said.
West Siang DC Gamli Pandu also had detailed interactions with all central govt. authorities on ALG issues of Aalo and all line HoDs of the district were also present on the occasion. (DIPROs)
Waii urges workers to be dedicated and sincere

ITANAGAR, Nov 29: Minister Home, RWD and Labour and Employment Kumar Waii has appealed to the working class to be dedicated and sincere in their works. The minister further observed that government staff who are doing other business instead of their office work is a greatest corruption surfaced in state.
The minister was addressing to huge gathering at joining ceremony of All Arunachal Pradesh Workers Union (AAPWU) with Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh(BMS) here at Siddhartha Hall on Tuesday. Acknowledging the contributions of working class in nation and state building, Waii added that to be wise man, a person does not need wealth rather wise men dedicate their lives for cause of others.
Waii further informed that he is coming with polices to streamline workers and exuded hope the policy would benefit them. He further appealed Tomba Singh General Secretary BMS to take with Arunachal Workers issues with the Center.
Responding the memorandum submitted by AAPWU, Waii stated that he would discuss with the Chief Minister involving the union members to find logical solution of the issues pertaining to workers. In his address Dumporijo MLA Paknga Bage exhorted that NDA government in Centre is for poor working class and hoped under NDA many beneficial schemes for workers would come. Terming the workers union memorandum as genuine Bage further assured to take up the issues with the government through concerned minister.
Submitting ten-point memorandum to the Minister, AAPWU President Jalley Sonam requested the government to look into the issues being faced by working class in the state. BMS General Secretary Tomba Singh and Rajiv Borah, BMS Assam State Unit President also spoke on the occasion.
State level Consultation on Accelerating Progress towards Good Nutrition for all
ITANAGAR, Nov 29: The Directorate of Family Welfare, State Health Society, National Health Mission (NHM) in collaboration with Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and India Institute of Public Health Shillong (IIPHS) organized a state level Consultation on Accelerating Progress towards Good Nutrition for All in Arunachal Pradesh at Banquet hall here on Tuesday. It was attended by over 80 participants including Government of Arunachal Pradesh officials from Departments of Health and Family Welfare, Women and Child Development, Education, Tribal Welfare, Social Welfare, non-governmental organisations working on health and nutrition issues, academic institutions and development partners.
Speaking on the occasion, Nodal Officer (MCH), NHM, Dr Tana Natung, provided an overview of the demographic profile and status of nutrition while highlighting the logistical challenges posed by the scattered nature of the state's population.
Director Health Services Dr Moji Jini, released the state nutrition dashboard for Arunachal Pradesh, which provides a comprehensive overview of key nutrition indicators and their multiple determinants at the state level in the form of easy-to-read infographics to inspire and inform efforts to accelerate reductions in undernutrition in the state.
In his keynote address, Dr Jini shared his observations about the cultural practices in the state such as wet nursing and mouth-to-mouth feeding of babies and the need to research their effects on nutritional outcomes. He also suggested that there is a need to include a public health expert/specialist at the policy level for effective planning of nutrition policies.
Director, IIPHS, Professor Sandra Albert, provided an overview of the health and nutrition status of the Northeast and drew attention to the hidden hunger that continues to exist among the people.
"Despite the commendable improvements in nutritional status, micronutrient deficiency in women and children continues to be a problem in the Northeast including Arunachal Pradesh," she said.
Presenting key findings from the Arunachal Pradesh dashboard, Lead Economist, PHFI and author on the IHR, Dr Neha Raykar said "Strategies that accelerate improvements in child stunting in Arunachal Pradesh will need to focus on health of adolescent girls and women as well as their educational and socioeconomic status."
Later in a panel discussion chaired by Director, Health& Family Welfare Lego, eminent group of representatives from key departments discussed how the current rate of improvement in nutritional status of children in Arunachal Pradesh can be accelerated further through inter-sectoral coordination and synergy by focusing on key underlying determinants of nutrition: education, water and sanitation, gender and equity.
Lego in his closing remark stressed that "health practitioners themselves need to improve their awareness about what constitutes a balanced diet that is also culturally appropriate". (DIPR)

'Pharmacists play a key role in patient care delivery system': Dhawan
ITANAGAR, Nov 29: 'Pharmacists play a key role in patient care delivery system and therefore they have the responsibility to sensitize people about do's and dont's as well as prevention and management through various mediums', said Special Secretary Health & Family Welfare, Prince Dhawan while addressing a meeting organized by the Arunachal Pradesh Pharmacy Council (APPC) on the occasion of the 55th National Pharmacy Week-2016 held at the Conference Hall, Directorate of Health Services, Naharlagun recently.
The Special Secretary further assured to look into the grievances placed by the pharmacist fraternity.
Speaking on the occasion, APPC President, T Gyatso termed the pharmacists as important members of the health care team and emphasized the need to make the best use of their services in order to improve patient's quality of life. He further informed that pharmacists represent the 3rd largest healthcare professional group in the world and in India there are around 10 lakhs registered pharmacists working in various positions.
Arunachal Registered Pharmacist Association General Secretary, Nabam Yahing also highlighted the various grievances of the pharmacists which needs to be addressed by the GoAP such as; no promotional avenue for the pharmacist, establishment of college of pharmacy in the state,
creation of separate directorate for drugs control administration headed by Drugs Controller, uniform allowance for pharmacist etc.
Incharge DHS & Joint Director Health Services, NVBDCP, Dr. Allok Yirang also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, a two-day long refreshers training course was also organized on Nov 24 and 25 last, wherein over 50 working registered pharmacists of the state took part.
‘Poi Pee Mau Tai 2111’ festival begins
NAMSAI, Nov 29: Parliamentary Secretary for Planning, Chow Zingnu Namchoom on Tuesday inaugurated the three-day long festival extravaganza 'Poi Pee Mau Tai 2111' at Poi Pee Mau Ground here amidst a huge gathering.
Greeting the people on the occasion, Namchoom lauded the celebration committee for choosing a relevant theme for this year's festival, "Say No To drugs". He said that the theme is very appropriate with the prevailing conditions of drug menace in the eastern parts of the state and called upon the youths to abstain from drugs and opium addiction.
Stating that the GoAP under the leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu is taking serious cognizance of the prevailing situation, he informed that Rs. 6 crores has been sanctioned by the GoAP to the Deputy Commissioners of the districts for establishment of drug de-addiction centres across the state.
He further called upon the people to adopt Swachh Bharat Abhiyan seriously in every nook and corner of the districts and to keep the surroundings neat and clean. He also advised the youths to stay safe and take preventive measures to protect oneself from sexually transmitted diseases like AIDS.
Namsai DC, R K Sharma in his address further informed that the GoAP has approved and included the Poi Pee Mau in the list of local festivals of the state.
Poi Pee Mau Celebration Committee vice-president, Chow Jaleeng Mannou and Tai Khampti Development Society president, Chow Siharaja Choutang also spoke on the occasion.

Parl secy flags off Swachhta run at Bomdila
BOMDILA, Nov 29: Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Family Welfare Phurpha Tsering along with Circle Officer T Mitkong flagged off a Swachhta Run cum aggressive awareness campaign on proper sanitation in the township here on Tuesday.
Organized in collaboration with the Bomdila PHED and WS division, the campaign was participated by a large number of students, government employees, and locals.
Speaking on the occasion, Tsering appreciated all the participants, especially the students who actively participated in the Swachhta Run. He also expressed gratitude to the the doctors, HODs, PHED AE and all the government employees for making the programme a grand sucess.
PHED AE Nyomi Nyodu and district consultant Lame Rida in their respective speeches spoke on the importance of proper sanitation and on the provisions which can benefit the denizens under Swacch Bharat Mission (Gramin) such as Individual Household Latrine (IHHL), Community Sanitary Complex(CSC) and Solid Liquid Waste Management(SLWM).
The Swachhta Run was a part of Swacch Bharat Mission (Gramin) and the main motto behind the run was to promote the social message of adopting behavioral changes on proper sanitation.
Employment oriented skill development programme held at Dambuk

Roing, Nov 29: With a motive to generate employment opportunities for the unemployed youth of Dambuk sub-division, an 'employment oriented skill development programme for unemployed youth of north-east states' was organized by the NHPC Limited as part of its CSR initiative. The project is being implemented by the Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC), New Delhi, in coordination with local NGO Dibang Right Bank Idu-Mishmi Charitable Society (DRBIMCS), Dambuk.
The programme that was held on Sunday last at the Idu-Rekoh hall in Dambuk, was attended by more than a hundred aspirants from Dambuk as well as other neighbouring villages. AGM CIDC SK Singh, trainer from CIDC Zabul Lashkar, GBs, PRIs, and other villagers also attended the programme.
President DRBIMCS Atek Linggi appreciated the initiative of NHPC Limited and CIDC for bringing such opportunity to an interior place like Dambuk. He also appealed the coordinators to provide more such opportunities, especially to its unemployed youths.
The skill development programme targets SC/ST/OBC/Women and EWS of the society.
Remembering Jananeta Bhimbor Deori
Jananeta Bhimbor Deori was born on 16.05.1903 in a poor tribal family in Borgoya Deori village, Rajabari, under Pani- Dihing Mauza of Sibsagar district (Assam). He passed his High School Examination from Sibsagar Government High School with an aggregate mark of more than 80% in the year 1925. After completing his graduation from Cotton College in the year 1929; he also completed his Law Degree from Kolkata University in the year 1931. But he could not complete his Master Degree from Kolkata University due to disturbances caused by Freedom Movement and came back Assam to take part in the Freedom Movement. Instead of joining Government job, he joined the Dibrugarh Bar. During his profession as lawyer at Dibrugarh Court, he used to travel every nook and corners of the villages of tribal and other backward races of Assam Province and devoted most of his time in the services of the poor, backward tribal and other indigenous backward races in the plains and hills of Assam province. That is the reason why he was loved by all the sections of people of rural Assam and he was given the title of "Jananeta" (Leader of the People) by Gopinath Bordoloi, the first Premier of Assam Province in independent India.
When the India's Freedom Struggle was taking a bigger shape in the first part of thirties and the question of Self-Rule came under British India, the League politics emerged in Assam to safeguard the interest of their respective tribes. As a result, many parties - like Muslim League, Ahom Sabha, Mattak League and Tribal League, etc, were formed in Assam Province. Bhimbor Deori realised that Assam Province was a land of tribal people and it was ruled by different tribes since time immemorial. He tried to convince the tribal people that the tribal would have to fight themselves for their legitimate rights being the sons of the soil. So, he organized meetings in every nook and corners of the villages of various tribes and other aboriginal races in the hills and plains of Assam Province with the help of leaders, like Late Karka Ch. Doley, late Rupnath Brahma, late Kharsing Terang , late Jadav Ch Khaklari and many other tribal leaders and succeeded in convening a session of Tribal League at Roha in the year 1933. All the tribes supported the Tribal League and unanimously selected Bhimbor Deori as General Secretary of Tribal League in the Roha Session and he worked in that coveted post till 1946. In the Kokrajhar Session of Tribal League in 1938, he got support of all the parties and was nominated as a Member of Legislative Council (MLC) in Assam Province; and later on, he was nominated to the Upper House also. The Tribal League played a decisive role in forming government in Assam Province. The Tribal League, under the leadership Bhimbor Deori and Rupnath Brahma, at first, supported the Muslim League in forming government in then Assam Province under the Prime Ministership of Sir Syed Saadullah for the greater interest of the tribes and races of Assam. He clearly understood that illiteracy was the main causes of backwardness of the tribal and other races in Assam. He urged the then ruling government in the Assam to open Primary Schools and Health Centers in the villages and extend compulsory free primary education, health and drinking water facilities for the overall development of the poor and backward tribes and other races of Assam.
But when the division of India came, the Muslim League, under the Prime Ministership of Sir Syed Saadullah was about to take the side with East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). This movement of Muslim League was vehemently opposed by the members of Tribal League. Bhimbor Deori organized a meeting in the Shillong Darbur Hall with different hill and plain tribes and races of Assam and Tribal League decided withdraw support from Sir Syed Saadullah Government leading to the fall of his Government. After the fall of Sir Syed Saadullah Government in Assam Province, the members of Tribal League supported the Indian National Congress lead by Lok Priya Gopinath Bordoloi and he became the Prime Minister of then Assam Province. Bhimbor Deori was inducted as Forest and Labour Minister in the Lok Priya Gopinath Bordoloi Ministry on 11th September, 1946.
Bhimbor Deori fell ill just after six months of his induction in the Bordoloi Ministry and was admitted in a Hospital at Shillong for treatment. He resigned from the Ministry due to his bad health and was referred to Madras for further treatment but he died at 'Arugyabhram', Madras after prolonged illness on 30.11.1947. On this 69th Death Anniversary of Jananeta Bhimbor Deori, we salute the great leader of the oppressed tribes and races of North East. (Compiled by Balaban Deory)

Singh emphasizes need to encourage co-operative organization
ITANAGAR, Nov 29: BJP National Coordinator, Hriday Nath Singh emphasized the need to encourage co-operative organization in the state to develop self-sustainability and to avail the benefits of centrally sponsored schemes.
Singh said this while addressing a huge gathering at Ziro on Saturday last, on the occasion of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay birth centenary celebration organized by district unit of Bharatiya Janata Kisan Morcha (BJKM) Lower Subansiri which was also attended by local MLA Tage Taki, former minister, Dr. Tangor Tapak, BJKM state president, Dungoli Libang, state BJP vice president, Nani Lajie, Lower Subansiri district president, Tilling Doley and other senior leaders.
Later in a meeting, Singh was also apprised about the problems being faced by the farmers in implementation of various Krishi Yojnas across the district in particular and state as a whole by Lower Subansiri District BJP President, Tilling Doley and District President BJKM Kago Kampu.
State Kisan Morcha President, Dunggoli Libang explained the morcha karyakartas the need of vigilance and monitoring mechanisms over the Central Sponsored Schemes that are being implemented by the respective departments in the state.
Local MLA, TageTaki in his address stressed upon the need for proper planning and development in the field of agriculture, horticulture, veterinary and other allied activities which are highly potential in the socio-economic developments for the people of the state like Arunachal Pradesh. He also urged the central government to activate the monitoring mechanisms of the Central Sponsored schemes so as to achieve timely implementation.
Absentee teachers warned of strict action
ITANAGAR, Nov 29: Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner cum District SSA Project Director Tai Kaye has called upon the all SSA functionaries to perform their duties and responsibilities with utmost sincerity and dedication keeping in mind the welfare of schools. The DC was addressing at a co-ordination meeting of all SSA functionaries of SSA District Mission regarding academic performance in his Conference Hall, Yupia on Tuesday.
Expressing his dissatisfaction over dismal scenario of some schools in the district, the DC said that strict action will be taken against the absentee teachers and SSA functionaries. Use of mobile in schools should strictly be banned as it create indiscipline and hampering studies, he said adding all heads of institutions should not allow the students to use mobiles in schools.
Presiding over the meeting, DC Tai Kaye also asked the BRCCs and CRCCs to maintain proper coordination with concerned administrative officers of their respective area and to keep proper records of land acquisition process during the process of construction of any building or other infrastructures.
DDSE cum DPO S.T. Zara also said that strict action would be initiated against the irregular and indiscipline teachers.
During the meeting many important points were discussed for improving the functioning of the schools in the district. It was unanimously resolved to issue strict instruction to all the BRCCs/CRCCs to be vigilant towards their duties and submit the actual report to the district in due time.
Absenteeism of teachers without any valid reason will be termed willfully absence and stern action will be initiated against them in the form of suspension/ termination, the meeting decided. Non functional schools be initiated to run as per the norms and violation of norms and guidelines in any case should not be made from the part of field functionaries and other officials. It was further resolved that approach of the public leaders, PRIs for the betterment of the school activities should be entertained within the existing norm.
Regarding lack of Science & Maths teachers in the schools of rural areas, the meeting also decided to approach the Govt in this regard.
All Administrative officers including ADC, SDO, EAC, C.O, BEO, BRCCs, CRCCs are suggested to report on non performing duties of teachers, Headmasters for further stern action.
17th Gyalwang Karmapa stresses on the importance of faith based on reasoning and rationality
TAWANG, Nov 29: His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje visited the Kala Wangpo Convention Hall to speak on Buddhist Philosophy and its relevance in the modern times. Chief Minister Pema Khandu, RWD Parliamentary Secretary Jambey Tashi, Tawang MLA Tsering Tashi and other dignitaries accompanied him.
Expressing his attachment with the Mon region, The Karmapa said that he had been attempting to visit the region for the last 16 years. He thanked the Government of India, Home Ministry and the Chief Minister for actualizing his first visit to the region. Delivering his sermon to an audience comprising of students, civil servants, government officials and elders, His Holiness spoke on the importance of taking refuge in triple gem i.e the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha. He also stressed on the importance of 'faith based on reasoning and rationality'.
Referring to the law of dependent origination, Karmapa highlighted the importance of self and the others. He emphasized that ultimate happiness depends on all other sentient beings and also urged to protect the environment.
The spiritual sermon was followed by an interactive session where questions were asked on the relevance of Buddhist philosophy in modern days, materialism, difference between four sects of Tibetan Buddhism and on possibilities for reincarnation of Lord Buddha himself.
The Karmapa earlier launched the website of Karmik and Adhyatmik Affairs and paid tribute to its department founder, 13th Tsona Gontse Rinpoche. His Holiness also paid tribute to late former Chief Minister, Dorjee Khandu.
He also visited the Urgyelling Gompa - the birthplace of Sixth Dalai Lama. Chief Minister Pema Khandu, RWD Parliamentary Secretary Jambey Tashi, Tawang MLA Tsering Tashi and other dignitaries accompanied him. Urgyelling Temple was built around 1487. The Sixth Dalai Lama, Tsanyang Gyatso was born on 1 March 1683 in Tawang in Urgyelling Monastery to Tashi Tenzin, a descendant of the treasure revealer Pema Lingpa, and Tsewang Lhamo, hailing from a royal family of Bekhar Village. His Holiness will visit Mon Parpong Jangchup Choekorling Kagyu Gompa tomorrow, where the offering of Mande-Ten-Sum will be made. Thereafter, he will depart for Dirang in West Kameng district. State-level National Children's Science Congress-2016 underway
ITANAGAR, Nov 29: A two-day long state-level 24th National Children Science Congress-2016 with the theme 'Science Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development' being organized by Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science & Technology, Itanagar began at Arunachal Pradesh Science Centre, here on Tuesday.
The programme is supported and catalyzed by National Council for Science & Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science & Technology, GoI, New Delhi.
In his inaugural address, Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science & Technology Director-cum- Member Secretary, T. Ronya assured all possible support to budding scientists who are coming up with innovative ideas. He also urged the teachers motivate the students to participate in NCSC and other scientific activities as well towards choosing science as a career. He further informed that the child scientists of the state whose projects will be selected at the National level NCSC 2016 at Baramati, Maharashtra would get a chance to participate in the International Science Expo/ Fair to be held at South Korea in 2017.
Department Science & Technology Secretary, Gaken Ete also appealed to the child scientists who have come from the districts of the state to become the torch bearers in inculcating the scientific temperament and innovative idea with the help of their projects and propagate scientific awareness in the society.
State Council for Science & Technology, Chairman, Bamang Mangha also urged the child scientists to generate interest for learning Science and advise them to come up with innovations and technologies which will benefit the society.
A total of 59 projects will be presented during the 2 day-long deliberation of projects by selected child scientists from 20 districts during the state-level national children science congress.
Public leaders in large number join BJP
ITANAGAR, Nov 29: Independent MLA from Dumporijo assembly constituency recently joined BJP along with eight ZPMs, 42 ASMs and 38 GPM. In Kurung Kumey district, 11 ASM from Sangram and 11 former ASMs from Nyapin joined BJP. On the occasion, president BJP state unit Tapir Gao also inaugurated BJP Mandal office in Daporijo, Mandal office in Sangram and District office in Palin for Kra Dadi district.
While addressing various public meetings in these districts, Gao said that BJP is a secular, democratic cadre based party where there are members and party workers from different regions and religions. He informed people about various developmental schemes and policies launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
While attending sports week of Government Higher Secondary School, Sangram, Gao exhorted the students to maintain sportsmanship spirit in their games and sports competition. Physical fitness and mental alertness are very important part of a person so sport activity is also equally important as academic pursuit, he advised.
State Office bearers and senior leaders of BJP state unit including B R Waghe, General Secretary, Tai Tagak, former President and Core Committee Member, Kipa Babu, Councilor, former Minister Tatar Kipa and Ngurang Pinch accompanied Gao on his tour.
One Nation Reading Together Programme2016 organized at Roing
ITANAGAR, Nov 29: 'One Nation Reading Together Programme2016' (ONRT) was organized at District Library Roing on Nov 25 last.
Addressing young reader-activists, library officials and members of local social groups, Lower Dibang Valley DC Deepak Shinde, IAS, said "Reading is a powerful tool that can change the trajectory of your life, forever. Keep it up."
"Anyone from the humblest of backgrounds can reach higher positions in life by developing reading habits. As young students, you should inculcate the habit of reading features like editorials, articles etc in daily newspapers," he advised quoting instances from his own rural background in Maharashtra. Shinde also congratulated the reader-activists of Intaya Library, Roing for presenting spirited reading demonstrations and for devoting themselves to sharing their reading expertise with the students of schools across Roing town. He appealed to the youths of Roing to make best use of the collections in the District Library.
Earlier, Organising Secretary of Intaya Public School Lomi Linggi, who coordinated the ONRT 2016 programme in Roing, outlined details of the event sponsored by Scholastic India, under which different schools, libraries and NGOs were encouraged to hold reading promotion activities in different public spaces on Nov 25.
The programme at each venue started with a poetic Reading Pledge followed by book reading, storytelling from books, poem recitations, book talks, painting contests, book gifts etc in which both the young and old participated.
The event in Roing town covered Abali Govt Sec School, Ezengo Govt. Middle School, Intaya Public School, VKV Roing, District Library, Dibang Youth Library, Mayu and Abali Chinzigoma Youth Library. The Gyan Setu team of university students from Jnana Prabodhini, Pune, made the programme at Abali more interesting with their sci-fun activities and a humorous skit on 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao'. The ONRT activities were conducted by the reader-activists of Intaya Library, Roing, jointly with the Coordinator, Lohit Youth Library Network.
Similar programmes were conducted by Bamboosa Library, Tezu, APNE Library, Wakro, Lathao Youth Library under Khun Ta Nao Society, Namsai, across schools in their respective neighbourhood.
Activists of Bamboosa Library conducted a special joyous session 'Know Your Library' for new young readers, under the guidance of ViTAES, Tezu while a painting contest and book gifts to library by donors were the special event at Lathao. Young readers & teachers from schools Apna Vidya Bhavan and KGBV, Wakro under ASSET, Govt Town Primary School No. 3, Govt. HSS, Govt Sec School, (all Tezu) and Govt HSS, Lathao took an active lead in the celebrations.
13-member state table tennis team to take part in National Table Tennis C’ship-2016
ITANAGAR, Nov 29: A 13-member Arunachal Table Tennis team including two officials has been selected for participation in the 78th Cadet & Sub-Junior National Table Tennis Championship-2016 to be held at Siliguri, North Bengal, from 1st to 6th December-2016.
The team members are: Cadet boys - Bralo Miso, Getit Nopi and Tarak Maph (from SLSA). Cadet girls - Neelam Dilli, Nungki Siboh and Eme Mili (from SLSA). Sub-Junior Boys - Joseph Perme, Yangphey Suyang and Nalo Komut, (SLSA). Sub-Junior Girls: Nail Meto, and Biri Yakap, (both from SLSA).
Neelam Ravi and Gouridas Oinam are the Team Manager and the Team Coach respectively.
The Arunachal Table Tennis team will be leaving for Siliguri from Itanagar on Tuesday and will return back on Dec 7, 2016.
Meanwhile, TTA president Kamta Lapung and TTA Honorary Secretary, Passang Dingla, wished the team members a grand success and safe journey. They also asked the team to maintain true sportsmanship spirit during the competition and hoped that the team will bring laurels to the state.
DC issues prohibitory order
ROING, Nov 29: Lower Dibang Valley District Magistrate, Deepak Shinde has on Tuesday issued an order prohibiting cultivation of poppy and manufacture/sell/purchase/trafficking of drugs or psychotropic substances in the entire Lower Dibang Valley district and asked all GBs/HGBs/general public to report any case regarding cultivation of cultivation and trafficking of Ganja, Poppy and other narcotic drugs to police and administrative officers and office of Lower Dibang Valley Deputy Commissioner for further action.
For any lapse in implementation of this order and/or any incidence of cultivation of Poppy within their jurisdiction GBs/HGBs shall be held personally responsible and necessary action shall be initiated against them, read the order.
ADC issues order against illegal land deal
RUKSIN, Nov 29: Following public complaint regarding selling/buying of government land in Sille-Oyan Circle by some unscrupulous people, Ruksin Additional Deputy Commissioner, T Pada has issued an order urging all concerned to refrain from such illegal activities.
ADC, T Pada by order no RKN/L-2/2016 dated Nov 29, 2016 warned all government employees not to involve in the illegal land deal and declared that land donated by donors was meant for infrastructure development of government departments at Sille township. The order also entrusted the Head Gaon Burahs/Gaon Burahs of Sille-Oyan circle to take up the land deal cases and report it to the administration. "Any Gaon Burah found signing as witness in land deal in Sille township will face legal action as per rule", the ADC's order read.
14th Convocation of RGU on Wednesday

ICAR-NRC on Yak conducts model training course on scientific management of livestock
ITANAGAR, Nov 29: The ICAR-National Research Centre on Yak, Dirang, successfully conducted a Model Training Course on "Scientific Management of Livestock of Hill Ecosystem for Better Productivity" sponsored by Directorate of Extension, Ministry of Agriculture. The eight days course was attended by 20 veterinary officials from line departments of eight different states. The training started on 22nd November and culminated on Tuesday.
Dr. (Capt.) A. G. Bandyopadhyay, Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Govt. of West Bengal attended the inaugural session. He emphasized the importance of livestock in the national economy and the role to be played by the livestock of hill ecosystem. Dr. SM Deb, Director of the institute thanked Directorate of Extension, Ministry of Agriculture for sponsoring the Model Training Course. During the inaugural session a training manual cum compendium was also released. Dr. Sourabh Deori, Scientist was the course director for the model training course.
During the 8 days programme, participants were exposed to different scientific management practices pertaining to highland animals. Field trips to yak rearing tracts and Govt. Sheep farm were also conducted to give the first hand experience of high altitude animal rearing.
The valedictory function was held on 29th November, 2016.
Dr. Atul Borgohain, Professor and Head of the Department of Extension Education, Assam Agricultural University graced the valedictory function and distributed the certificates to the participants.
Association seeks reconsideration of decision
ITANAGAR, Nov 29: Jolted by the district administration's decision to shift out Tata Sumo Counters from market area in pretext of traffic congestion in twin Capital city, the All Arunachal Pradesh Tours & Travels Association has appealed the district administration for reconsideration of its decision.
In a representation to the DC Capital Complex, the association requested him to let operation of counters continue at existing places at least for the period of 12 months till they found alternate sites for parking space. The association also pointed out that it would be difficult for them to get a private space. It informed district administration that they have spotted three alternate sites such as Agriculture Market Gohpur Itanagar, Zero point near Principal Forest and Conversation Office and defunct market at Barapani, Naharlagun.
KVK Anjaw helps renew Citrus orchard of a progressive farmer
ITANAGAR, Nov 29: A team of KVK Anjaw officials Senpon Ngomle, SMS (PP) and Rebecca Eko, SMS (Horticulture) recently visited the orchard of S Tamai, a progressive farmer from Tambro village, who had sought solution for the deteriorating condition of his four year old citrus orchard.
Khasi mandarin is one of the most important fruit crop of Anjaw district however due to lack of knowledge and proper information, farmers often do not practice after care operation after planting the Khasi Mandarin saplings.
After thorough inspection and diagnose of the symptoms, the KVK team found out that the orchard was infected by citrus trunk borer, collar rot, infestation of parasitic plant (Loranthus) and deficiency of micro-nutrient (especially zinc). Soil drenching of 0.5% of Dichlovos 76 EC was applied after cleaning 1 m area around the tree basin and the farmer was asked to repeat the process at weekly interval.
For controlling collar rot and other fungal diseases, Bordeaux mixture was prepared and its application was done both on the infected as well as on the healthy trees. The team also recommended him to maintain clean orchard by removing the parasitic plants and plastering the cut area with Bordeaux paste.
The team explained about the various care and management practices to the farmer.
Kempi Pakam elected National Vice President of Bharat Scouts & Guides
ITANAGAR, Nov 29: Kempi Pakam has been elected National Vice President of Bharat Scouts and Guides in the 66th annual general meeting of National Council election held at National Headquarters of Bharat Scouts and Guides, New Delhi on Sunday last.
It is for the first time that a woman is elected to the coveted post of National Vice President of Bharat Scouts and Guides from the North Eastern region.
The National office bearers are elected by the National Council members of different states. There are 53 states under BSG, the no. of council members are determined by the strength of Scouts/ Guides/ Cubs/ Bulbuls/ Rovers and Rangers of the state. Arunachal Pradesh has six council members and in total there are around 380 National Council Members who cast their votes to elect the candidate of their choice on their individual personality and merit.
Seminar held to mark National Law Day
ITANAGAR, Nov 29: A seminar on 'state, society and the law' was organized by the Department of Law, Himalayan University, Itanagar on the occasion of National Law Day at its premises in Chimpu here on Saturday last for the first and second year students of LLB.
During the seminar, Assistant Professor and HoD in-charge, Chujip Khoinya spoke on the importance of the enactment of the Indian Constitution.
The seminar was also attended by Assistant Professors, Ripe Bagra, Sanjida Qauder, Godak Bikash and Kenter Kena.
Death mourned
ITANAGAR, Nov 29: The Tacho Youth Welfare Association (TYWA) has deeply mourned the demise of Lomam Tako, a native of Hakpuk village under Pipsorang Circle in Kra Daadi district. Tako (45), who worked as an ALC died when he fell from a hilltop between Damin-Koloriang while on duty on Nov 20 last. He is survived by his wife, three sons and four daughters.
Terming his death as an irreparable loss to the society, the TYWA further prayed to the Almighty for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
AAPGDLU calls for early release of Board allowance
ITANAGAR, Nov 29: The Arunachal Pradesh Government Departmental Labour Union Upper Subansiri district unit (AAPGDLU) has appealed for early release of pending housing allowance/educational benefits/marriage assistance etc for the labourers from APB&OCWWB.
In its representation to the labour commissioner, it claimed that most of the labourers registered with the Board have completed their registration and monthly contribution however they are yet to get their entitled benefits.

ITANAGAR, Nov 29: Claiming that dwelling houses of Charu Tatam and Nguri Potom were completely gutted in fire on November 26, 2016 at Chambang, the Charu Welfare Society(CWS) sought relief materials from the district administration as well as from the local MLA for the fire victims.
‘Re-start of road works’
ITANAGAR, Nov 29: All Pipu Gyawepurang Youth Welfare Association in a representation to the local MLA (9th Chayang Tajo) demanded for re-starting of formation cutting work of C/o Pachi to Rigam road via Fachang, Tabri, Lochung and Bokar under NLCPR. The Association informed that construction of road began from Janurary 2012 and as per the agreement it had to complete within 18 months, however the road is still under dilapidated condition. It also questioned the executing agency why the formation cutting was not even completed.
Orgs condole death of artiste
ITANAGAR, Nov 29: Tagin Welfare Society (TWS) Itanagar and Arunachal Artistes Forum on Tuesday deeply condoled the demise of Perak Dupit, a senior artiste, who passed away on Sunday at Daporijo. Born in Dupit Village under Taliha circle of Upper Subansiri district, Late Dupit was the first recognised All India Radio singer from Tagin community.
Apart from an artiste he was also elected as Anchal Samity Member.
The society and forum termed his untimely death as irreparable loss to the community in particular and the state as whole.

Shun bandh culture
In a welcome change, the denizens of capital complex defied the recent capital bandh and carried on with normal life. This should send out a strong message to those unions/associations who take citizens for granted and randomly organize bandh call in capital region. For the personal profit of few individuals the ordinary citizens are unnecessarily harassed. People should show more courage and continue to defy the bandh callers. On their part the administration should make sure that these bandh callers are strongly punished for disrupting the public order.
Often we see district administration declaring the bandh illegal and issue warning
of arresting the bandh callers. But most of the time they are easily let off and
this encourages them. This should be stopped and the administration should severely
punish the bandh callers. Also the so called pressure groups needs to introspect
and change their tactics of operation. There is no doubt that some of the issues
raised by them are found to be genuine. However bandh call as a tool to fight against
the system is out-

Does demonisation really helps to unearth black money?
Dear Editor,
There has been widespread myth on the advantages of demonetisation which has been making round with general people buying into the idea that demonetisation is good since (they believe);
1. It destroys the terror funding activities against our country.
2. It helps in cracking down black money.
3. It destroys the printing of duplicate notes.
4. It helps in cracking corruption.
But will it? On the idea that demonetisation will destroy terror funding, one should ask the question, "What and who will stop the carrying out of such funding with the new currency notes? Will not these new currency notes get into the wrong hands?"
On the idea that demonetisation will crack down on Black money, there is enough examples (and we don't have to look far) of black money being converted into immovable properties among other and most importantly though initially, it will hamper the flow of black money but the new currency notes will become the new black money as seen recently with the arrest of a govt. official with bribe amount of Rs. 34,000 at West Bengal in the new Rs. 2000 denomination.
If one were to follow the news lately, there has been news of fake currency printing rackets getting caught and news of circulation of fake currency of the new Rs. 2000 note. So, how is it destroying the printing of duplicate notes?
About cracking the corruption, refer back to the instance of the government official getting caught with bribe of Rs. 34,000. We need more than demonetisation to stop corruption starting from you and me to pledge not to give or take bribe, changing currency notes won't.
The move which Dr. Manmohan Singh, one of the greatest Indian economist of the last century (one's view of him as a politician is not of concern here), called as "Organized loot and legalized plunder", as well as being criticized by Noble Laureate Amartya Sen to be “authoritarian in nature”, speaks volume of it.
Let's not forget, more than half of India live in rural areas and don't own "smartphones" which is required if we were to go with PM Modi's idea of becoming a "cashless economy" or to even vote in his polls which to his convenience is conducted in the mobile application called NaMo.
The idea might have had started with the best of intentions but lack of foresight is hurting the economy, killing people left and right.
I understand my stand/approach might seem as pessimistic to one but these are realities/possibilities which cannot be overlooked especially when such move has been championed all around. Let's not get blinded and not see the obvious.

Disaster in waiting
Dear Editor,
I take pride in remarking that lately Pasighat traffic police has done excellent job of regulating traffic flow and managing parking in and around the mid market area. Sporadically, though few erratic driving will be seen but such errors come from drivers who are new to the town and are not aware of traffic regulations. Now unlike before the introduction of one way drive, no confusion exists as to which direction one should head to avoid a jam caused by intransigent drivers coming from the opposite direction.
In contrast to the much regulated traffic in mid market, it is a different story
at all when one takes the exit from the market and drive towards the carrefour at

The earlier district administration deservedly shifted the business from present
location to 2-
Everyone one failed to understand as to why the district administration allowed to relocate this market ignoring the threat of traffic congestion? The preposterous decision has brought back the problems and danger to the commuters, vendors and nauseating the air right back into the busiest and accident prone area of the town.
Now it remains to be seen whether the administration will learn its lesson only after a major disaster struck.
